The Board of the Polish Journalists Association is deeply saddened by the tragic death of the Mayor of Gdańsk Paweł Adamowicz and appeals to all journalists and Internet users as well as persons commenting in public on this tragedy to act with caution and not let themselves be led by emotions when reporting on its causes, course of events and results.
We respect every person’s right to their own interpretation of any event and the right to disseminate such an assessment in the public domain, but in the face of a tragedy like the one in Gdańsk, one must be especially responsible for the opinions voiced in public. Respecting the role of the free press, which is fundamental for the society, we appeal to the persons who are responsible for contacts with the media to share with journalists all information and help them in performing their duties as journalists so that they can convey as accurately as possible the gist and all circumstances of this tragic event.
We express our deepest sympathy to the Family and Colleagues of Mayor Paweł Adamowicz.
