The European Federation of Journalists is seeking to recruit a Policy and Project Officer to work in its Brussels office.
Position: Policy and Project Officer
Location: Brussels (with some international travel)
Reports to: EFJ General Secretary
Job summary
The EFJ Policy and Project Officer is responsible for assisting the EFJ team in core EFJ work under the supervision of the EFJ General Secretary. The Policy and Project Officer will be expected to support the small secretariat’s work in Brussels, in particular in developing and promoting lobbying campaigns and project work, and servicing the EFJ’s Experts Groups.
Job description
While the EFJ Policy and Project Officer will be expected to work in a flexible way and undertake a variety of work related to the EFJ working programme, main tasks will include:
• Implementing project work and developing with the team new project applications for EFJ members within the Council of Europe region;
• Assisting EFJ team in servicing members, expert groups, drafting reports; and liaising with European institutions and the Council of Europe;
• Promoting EFJ campaigns at European level, often in cooperation with the IFJ communication office.
Person specification
In addition to having experience of undertaking the activities highlighted above, the ideal candidate for this post will have:
• the ability to write in English to a high standard and an ability to work in either French or German;
• experience of working with the European institutions;
• an understanding of the EFJ’s commitment and the values of the trade union movement;
• experience of working in an international and multilingual environment;
• the ability to work in a flexible way and under tight deadlines and a willingness to travel occasionally;
• experience of working as a journalist and with social media.
